Re: Joey Beauchamp
Saw him play for West Ham in a pre season friendly v Oxford City. Still got the programme with his autograph on it. Thought he looked quite speedy and a good buy for the club.
Obviously lived a troubled life since football. Very sad.

Re: Joey Beauchamp
A simple soul who fulfilled his childhood dream of playing for Oxford.
Like so many others he struggled when his career came to an end and hit the bottle suffering from depression.
RIP

It was evident that he was a fragile soul, when citing home sickness.

Re: Joey Beauchamp
He actually turned us down for similar reasons in March 1994 on transfer deadline day (When the window used to close later) due to his reluctance to leave Oxford Utd and live/travel too far from Oxford.

Harry & Bonzo should have taken the hint then but came back in for him that summer and persuaded him to sign.

Re: Joey Beauchamp
He said he wanted to play for West Ham, but was told he could stay in Oxford. That turned out to not be practicable with us training in Chadwell Heath. I hated him at the time, but it’s very sad for someone to die at 50. If it was suicide, then that is a tragic waste.

Re: Joey Beauchamp
Beyond RIP, I can't comment on his recent life.

But what motivates clubs to sign players who don't want to play for them?

Alan Dickens didn't want to play for Chelsea, and that didn't work out well, either.

Re: Joey Beauchamp
He’s had plenty of personal demons since he finished playing unfortunately.

Last I heard he had turned a corner and got his life together again but judging from the rumours of the cause of death he obviously went into a dark place again.

Regardless of the soap opera of the transfer to us he was a brilliant player for Oxford.

Very sad. RIP

Re: Joey Beauchamp
So sad to hear that. Obviously a bizarre situation years ago but always admired the fact that he wanted to play for his hometown club. RIP, such a tragedy.
